Belarusian aluminium company wins an international award

11.08.2022

The Hadrian’s Tower apartment block in Newcastle, UK, has been announced as the winner of the international Tall Building Award, as the Best Engineering Design for the Façade and Windows of a High-Rise Building. The building, which was completed in 2020 and became the tallest in the city (82 metres high), was built with the participation of LLC KTM-2000 from Belarus, a member of the Aluminium Association.

The area of the tower’s façade is 5,000 square metres, and aluminium cassettes with a total weight of 40 tonnes were required for its cladding. The jury noted the original architectural design of the building’s façades, decorated with handmade bricks and bronze aluminium panels.

Within the multinational team of experts, the Belorussian company was responsible for anodising and machining aluminium sheets. The finished modules of the façade elements were assembled directly on the building, similar to the LEGO construction sets. The façade was installed as a whole finished block or element (an aluminium frame with a glazing unit). This feature made it possible to ensure more accurate shop assembly, offered a short installation period, saved space on the construction site, as well as orivuded the ability to mount the façade without waiting for the completion of work to construct the reinforced concrete floor slabs.

Commenting on the award, Taras Gvozdkov, CEO of KTM-2000 Architectural Anodising Plant, said: ‘Participating in the Newcastle project gave us the opportunity to demonstrate our competence in making materials for today’s construction sector, as well as to gain additional experience of international cooperation, which we are now successfully applying at other responsible sites.’
