The 4th regional festival-forum 'Russian Creative Week–Siberia', which for the first time brought together leaders from all 14 sectors of Russia's creative industries in a single venue and showcased their top developments and projects, has concluded in Krasnoyarsk. One of the topics that came into focus was the interaction of creative and traditional sectors of the economy. The intersection point was industrial design.
In 2024, the Aluminium Association initiated the creation of an industrial design sector aimed at popularising innovative and modern aluminium design solutions, developing educational programmes and training students, raising awareness of designers and teachers about the modern capabilities of aluminium alloys and solutions, as well as creating pilot production sites for practical training and launching new products to the market. The start of effective collaboration in this crucial public sector was marked by the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Aluminium Association and the Agency for Strategic Initiatives for the Promotion of New Projects at the Saint Petersburg Economic Forum this summer. A month later, the foundation of the industrial design competency centre was laid at the Krasnoyarsk site.
'Industrial design is a crucial component of the economy for successful competition. Products created with the participation of industrial designers are in high demand and therefore bring more profit. Industrial design surrounds us everywhere: houses, offices with their interiors and exteriors, transport, etc. That's why the government is now paying a lot of attention to this topic, developing institutions and creating master plans for cities,' says Irina Kazovskaya, Chair of the Aluminium Association.
Creative industries are becoming a driver of our country's economic development. Even today, they make a significant contribution to the economic development of Russia, creating added value for final products and making them more competitive. The growth of this segment can be driven by the widespread use of high-tech and environmentally sound materials, as well as innovative aluminium alloys that have been developed in Russia in recent years. Today's economy necessitates the use of innovative materials. The development of advanced technologies and innovations is impossible without the use of aluminium and its alloys. The main criterion for gauging the innovation value of any product is the material it is made of. Due to its light weight, strength, and great aesthetic qualities, aluminium is highly sought after by architects and designers. It is also commonly used in the renovation and reconstruction of buildings and structures.
According to the Governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory Mikhail Kotyukov, the turnover of creative industries in the region has already reached 70 billion ruubles, and more than 20,000 people work in this area. The contribution of creative industries to the GRP of the Krasnoyarsk Territory is 2.9%, and the goal is to double this figure by 2030, the head of the region stressed. 'The creative economy in the Krasnoyarsk Territory is developing quite rapidly. The industry employs more than 20,000 people, and there are more than 13,000 market participants in creative industries. Their contribution to our GRP is 2.9%. The goal is to double this figure by 2030. Accordingly, we must support and encourage creative people in every possible way. Siberia has always been rich in creative, active people who want to offer and implement new ideas. These can be youth projects, projects related to changes in the appearance of cities and industries, and digital technologies that are now also part of the creative sector. The rich scientific traditions of our region make it possible to build on this foundation and take the next step by attracting young scientists and researchers to new creative projects,' Mikhail Kotyukov said during the first day of the 'Russian Creative Week–Siberia' forum.
'Creative industries are very active in the Russian regions. There are next to no constituent entities of the Russian Federation left without established development institutions. In Krasnoyarsk, for example, there is the Siberian Institute for the Development of Creative Industries, which shapes the working conditions of small, medium and large businesses for the creative economy. Krasnoyarsk has a creative specialisation, actively developing the gastronomy, fashion, design areas and the IT sector. Krasnoyarsk is a champion in holding creative forums: 'Russian Creative Week–Siberia' is being held for the fourth time. It is noticeable how dynamically the situation is changing in terms of the state creating conditions for the creative sector,' said Alexander Zhuravsky, Deputy chief of the Presidential Directorate for Public Projects.
