Dear colleagues, dear friends,

Let me, on behalf of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation and personally, extend my warmest congratulations on the 90th anniversary of the Russian aluminium industry.

Since the founding of the aluminium industry in 1932 to the present day, the industry has progressed a great deal. At times when the country faced the ambitious task of industrialisation, the aluminium industry and people involved have always been a reliable pillar and guarantor for the supply of strategic industries with aluminium and aluminium-based alloys.

Currently, the Russian Federation is the world's second largest producer of primary aluminium with the aluminium industry being one of the pillars of the country's economy and its manufacturing and industrial sectors, employing more than 600,000 professionals. Aluminium is not only widely used in the aerospace and rocket industry; the unique metal properties and high expertise of Russian metallurgists allow it to be used in construction, food processing and packaging industries, and to develop new alloy products, constantly expanding the scope of the metal's application.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation is working in collaboration with the industry community to promote opportunities for its increased consumption. Statutory and technical regulation as well as standardisation are constantly improving, which is necessary to remove technical barriers and pave the way for the development of new products and the expansion of aluminium applications.

Major emphasis is put on the technological efficiency of production and on raising environmental standards. Over the next years, the industry will face the environmental transformation of the four largest aluminium smelters and the deepening of the localisation of aluminium downstream production helping create competitive, high-tech products with high added value.

All of this is made possible owing to the high level of professional skill, enthusiasm and dedication of labour collectives in the aluminium industry. At this generational crossroads on the eve of Metallurgist Day and the 90th anniversary of the Russian aluminium industry, I think it is particularly important to stress the need to preserve the talent pool formed over the decades, the continuity of generations and the unique scientific school of the Russian aluminium industry.

I would like to congratulate the veterans and active employees of the aluminium smelters on this anniversary and wish them prosperity, success in their hard work, new accomplishments and the achievement of goals they have set!
