Bogatyr, a New Tram with Aluminium Interior, Will Operate in Krasnoyarsk

This autumn in Krasnoyarsk, the new 71-923 Bogatyr articulated tram will begin trial runs. Currently, the tram interior is completed. It is entirely made from aluminium alloys. The interior was designed by 13 Element, a local company from Zheleznogorsk Priority Development Area. If the pilot tram proves successful, the city may order another 45 units, also for the metro tram line, a high-speed underground and overground light rail system currently under construction in Krasnoyarsk.

Transport Systems is the manufacturer of the 71-923 Bogatyr railcars. The company’s portfolio boasts projects for many Russian cities including Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kaliningrad, and Cherepovets. The use of aluminium components not only enhances the durability but also makes the tram flame proof. A single Bogatyr tram has ~720 kg of aluminium components. Its overall weight is 27 tonnes. Such components as handrails, partitions, ceiling panels, destination indicators, and seat frames are all made from aluminium. The new tram boasts a greater length (19.4 metres compared to 16.4) and can accommodate up to 193 passengers, significantly more than its predecessor. The aluminium interior components are manufactured in Krasnoyarsk by the Krasnoyarsk Metallurgical Plant (KraMZ) which supplies extruded profiles to 13 Element.

In 2021, Krasnoyarsk updated its rolling stock and purchased 25 71-911EM Lion trams with 170 passenger capacity. The localisation of these trams reached 80%. The interior aluminium extruded is manufactured by a member of the Aluminium Association, Krasnoyarsk Machine Components Company.
