07.08.2023 – Aluminium Association
On 9 August at 14:30, as part of the Building Russia’s Future project, the Aluminium Association will hold a roundtable discussion entitled Aluminium as a Catalyst for Advanced Technology Development in Construction. The media project, which will be broadcast live, will commemorate the Day of the Builder (13 August 2023) and the 10th anniversary of the Russian Ministry of Construction.
The roundtable will explore the application of advanced aluminium technologies and materials in construction projects, regulatory documents and standards, and the benefits of new aluminium alloys in residential construction. The guests include representatives from the Russian Union of Architects, Albes, Alukom, Moskabelmet, FAU, Metrogiprotrans, and Polytekhstroy.
The construction sector is one of the main consumers of aluminium in the Russian market. It accounts for approximately 30% of the country’s total metal consumption, or 220,000~230,000 tonnes annually. Aluminium’s appeal in construction lies in its unique properties: low weight, high corrosion resistance, and durability. With growing attention to sustainable development, climate preservation, and the introduction of green construction principles, the recyclability of aluminium is becoming increasingly important. Around 80% of the world’s aluminium is recycled.
The roundtable guests will discuss future and completed projects that utilise aluminium solutions. Among these is the construction of aluminium bridges, an initiative launched by the Aluminium Association in 2017. Previously, only one such bridge had been built in Russia (Leningrad, 1969). However, in 2023, 15 aluminium bridges were constructed in Krasnoyarsk, Tula, the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Samara, and Moscow. In 2019, the Russian Ministry of Construction approved the use of modern, innovative 8xxx series alloys for cabling in residential buildings. This new market product is protected against counterfeiting, has successfully passed all necessary safety tests, and is more cost-effective than products made from other materials.Aluminium is also used in the construction of metro stations and the renovation of historical heritage sites. We will provide more details during the live broadcast.
The Aluminium as a Catalyst for Advanced Technology Development in Construction roundtable discussion will be broadcast on строителироссии.рф.
