Ulyanovsk Engine Plant

Ulyanovsk Motor Plant (UMZ) is part of the Light Commercial and Passenger Cars division of GAZ Group, Russia’s largest automobile manufacturing complex. 

The main products of the plant are petrol engines UMZ-4216 and EvoTech 2.7 and their dual-fuel (gasoline) modifications complying with Euro-4 and Euro-5 environmental class for GAZ light commercial vehicles (GAZel, Sobol).

In general, UMZ produces 10 engine models and about 80 engine modifications, as well as more than 1.5 thousand names of spare parts for them. The plant’s production capacity allows it to produce about 70 thousand engines per year.

Ulyanovsk Engine Plant is a full production cycle enterprise: from development of automotive petrol and gasoline engines to production and testing of finished products. The industrial site of the plant houses foundry, machining, galvanothermic, press and assembly facilities.

The Ulyanovsk Engine Plant was the first in Russia to master serial production of gasoline engine modifications. The main advantages of these products are the factory warranty and quality, as well as a significant reduction in operating costs.

A distinctive feature of UMZ production is high mobility of the technology, which allows to quickly switch to production of engines of any size within the range from 2.5 to 3 litres. Factory-produced engines are optimised for heavy-duty applications. High torque at low engine speeds gives the car an advantage on both steep uphill motorways and in heavy traffic on city streets.
