Ulyanovsk Motor Plant (UMZ) is in the ‘Light commercial vehicles and passenger cars’ division of the leading Russian automobile complex ‘GAZ Group’.
The main product of the plant is petrol engines UMZ-4216 and EvoTech 2.7, their bi-fuel (gas-gasoline) versions, complying with European emission standards Euro4 and Euro5 for light commercial vehicles for GAZ (‘GAZelle’, ‘Sobol’).
In general UMZ produces around 10 models of engines with around 80 versions each, as well as more than 1,500 spare parts for them. The production capacity of the plant allows for an output of around 70,000 engines per year.
Ulyanovsk Motor Plant is a facility with a full production cycle: from development of automobile petrol and gas-gasoline engines to the issue and testing of the finished products. On the industrial site, there are areas for casting, mechanical processing, electro-thermal, pressing and assembly production.
The Ulyanovsk Motor Plant was the first in Russia to achieve mass production of gas-gasoline versions of engines. The main advantages of this product are the manufacturer warrantee and quality, as well as significant reduction in operating expenses.
An excellent feature of UMZ production is the high mobility of the technology, which allows quick transition to manufacturing engines of any proportion between 2.5 and 3 litres. The engines produced in the factor have optimum characteristics that mean they can be used in severe conditions. The high torque at low speeds gives the vehicle an advantage on both on steep slopes and in heavy traffic on city streets.
