18.09.2023 - Aluminium Association
The Aluminium Association, the Outdoor Lighting Association, and Moskabelmet Group hosted the Alu-minium Innovations in Outdoor Lighting Siberia 2023 conference in Krasnoyarsk. Over 100 local city light companies involved in the maintenance and overhaul of outdoor lighting, manufacturers of outdoor lighting, smart building lights, and park beautification products attended the event, which was supported by the Krasnoyarsk City Hall.
The conference guests noted the extensive range of innovative aluminium solutions for urban planning, in-cluding aluminium lighting posts, light fixtures, cable trays, e-vehicle charging stations, cables made from 8xxx series alloys, and more. These products with their long lifespan seamlessly blend into park or street de-signs and do not require special maintenance.
The conference also focused on the integration of these solutions into the smart city ecosystem. This project is implemented by the Russian Ministry of Construction as part of the national Housing and Urban Envi-ronment project and the Digital Economy initiative. The ecosystem is designed to efficiently manage cities, and create a safe and liveable urban environment and public services.
“Today, extensive landscaping projects are in progress in many major cities, and aluminium alloy-based products could be in high demand for the construction and renovation of street lighting. The combination of aluminium alloys and advanced technologies is very promising, particularly for creating a liveable urban environment”, stated Evgeny Vasiliev, Vice Chairperson of the Aluminium Association.
A key topic of the conference was the potential use of 8xxx series aluminium alloy cabling in street lighting systems, temporary electric networks, and other urban and industrial facilities. Aluminium alloy cables can reduce the cable cost by at least 30% and decrease the weight by 15...30%. Furthermore, advanced alumin-ium cables are more flexible and safeguarded against counterfeiting.
“8xxx series aluminium cables are already extensively used in construction. It opens an opportunity to im-prove financial performance. We need solutions that not only beautify the city but also save municipal money. Advanced aluminium alloys can cut the cost of current projects by 50%. Given the rising cost of copper, aluminium’s share in the energy industry will increase”, noted Pavel Moryakov, Head of Energy, Al-uminium Association, and CEO of Moskabelmet.
The broad geographic coverage of the aluminium urban lighting manufacturers significantly cuts logistics expenses, enhancing the competitiveness of their products. The event guests agreed to further examine the existing urban projects to explore the use of aluminium products.
