Moscow, June 21, 2022. The Annual General Meeting of the members of the Association titled the Union of Producers, Suppliers and Consumers of Aluminium (Aluminium Association) was held. The event was held in the video conference format.
During the general meeting, a report on the work of the Aluminium Association for 2021 was presented, the main trends in the industry's development in the current situation and suggestions for updating the Association's plans for 2022, which is the anniversary year for the domestic aluminium industry: 90 years ago, the first industrial batch of metal was produced at the Volkhov Aluminium Smelter.
According to Irina Kazovskaya, Co-Chair of the Aluminium Association, in 2021, the consumption of aluminium in Russia and other CIS countries amounted to 1.2 million tonnes and about 500 thousand tonnes of the secondary metal. At the same time, compared to 2016, the consumption per capita almost doubled and reached 10 kg, which reflects the global 'aluminisation' trend.
Representatives of the Aluminium Association, who spoke at the meeting, reported on the work in the main areas of its development strategy: stimulating the aluminium consumption in the domestic market, implementing the standardisation programme, promoting the import substitution for semi-finished products and finished products, supporting exports and international relations, combating counterfeiting, improving the environmental friendliness of processes and materials, increasing the product quality and training highly qualified personnel for aluminium-consuming industries.
The participants also had a chance to review the report on the Association's participation in the congresses and exhibitions. Thus, during the past year, 215 events were held aimed to develop the market and represent the interests of the Association and its members. Among conferences and forums arranged by the Association, a special place is occupied by events that contribute to the development of competencies in the field of aluminium casting, aluminium alloy welding and additive technologies that are in demand in the country.
Among the main challenges faced by the domestic aluminium industry, the Association's experts called logistics constraints, border closure, transport flow reorientations and slowdown of a number of infrastructure projects. At the same time, the main industry's drivers include support for exports, the development of domestic demand and the introduction of new types of products to the market.
The meeting participants made a number of organisational decisions, among which the inclusion of six new members in the Association: JSC Composite Group, LLC Laser Systems, LLC Holding Cable Alliance, LLC Glass Service, LLC Brometall and LLC MSK-Service. Thus, for today the Aluminium Association includes 129 companies and organisations.
