The Aluminium Association, together with experts from its member companies and organisations, continues to work on updating the interstate standards for aluminium powders. Earlier, the Federal Agency for Technical Regulation and Metrology (Rosstandart) approved an updated standard, GOST 5494-2022 ‘Aluminium powder. Specifications’. On October 26, 2022, Orders of Rosstandart No 1191-st and No 1192-st approved updated GOST 5592-2022 ‘Pyrotechnic powder. Specifications’ and GOST 6058-2022 ‘Aluminium powder. Specifications’. These standards will take effect from December 1, 2022.
The interstate standards were developed within the framework of TC/ITC 099 Aluminium by the Aluminium Association and LLC Volgograd Aluminium Company — Powder Metallurgy (LLC Valkom-PM), the largest producer of aluminium powders in Russia.
The approval of the updated standards will establish advanced requirements for aluminium powders, improve the quality of products made from them and provide domestic products with additional competitive advantages in the global, regional and domestic markets.
‘Our future plans as per the Aluminium Industry Standardisation Programme for 2022–2026 include the development of two more standards for aluminium powder test methods and two more specifications for specialised products that are in high demand in the market. It is planned that the these standards will be developed using the Association’s own funds and with the involvement of experts from among the producers. Our main objective is to close the technology gap caused by the use of outdated standards, as well as to improve safety and expand the range of products,’ says Alexei Efimov, Chair of TC 099 Aluminium.
