On April 1, 2022, GOST 32603-2021 'Three-layer panels with metal cladding and mineral wool core. Technical specification' takes effect in Russia. The new standard for the first time allows producers to use aluminium as a cladding material for three-layer sandwich panels, and also sets requirements for the metal used.
Experts of the Aluminium Association took part in development of the standard together with Melnikov Central Research & Design Institute of Steel Structures CJSC and the Association of PPU Panel Producers (NAPPAN Association).
The standard was developed to replace GOST 32603-2012 and applies to three-layer wall and roof panels (sandwich panels) with metal cladding and mineral wool core. Such sandwich panels are manufactured at production lines of all types and are intended for enclosing structures of civil and industrial construction facilities, refrigerators and freezers.
The requirements for products approved in the draft standard make it possible to ensure compliance with the mechanical and thermal characteristics necessary for the normal operation of facilities. In particular, the new document introduces additional requirements that improve the quality of products, which directly influences the safety of industrial and public buildings and structures.
Using aluminium elements in sandwich panels with mineral wool core is a step forward in the construction field. Due to the high plasticity of aluminium, such cladding can be easily processed, painted and looks aesthetically pleasing. Even in a highly aggressive environment, aluminium can service twice as long as traditional materials used for enclosing structures. Another advantage is the comparable cost of sandwich panels with aluminium cladding compared to similar products made of other materials.
The products have successfully passed fire resistance and fire safety tests. Following the tests, confirming certificates and reports were issued in accordance with Federal Law No 123 'Technical Regulations on Fire Safety Requirements' for applying in industrial and civil construction.
'The new type of sandwich panels with aluminium cladding is a popular and promising solution for constructing industrial and civil facilities with special requirements for operating conditions and aggressive environments. We are talking about buildings for chemical and pharmaceutical industries, as well as structures operated in areas of high humidity or marine climate,' says Olga Ogorodnikova, Head of the Construction Sector at the Aluminium Association.
