The updated standard, GOST 21519-2022 ‘Window blocks made of aluminium profiles. Specifications’, was approved by Decree of Rosstandart No 982-st of September 23, 2022. It replaces the standard of 2003 with the same name.
The developers of the standard have updated the technical requirements according to the latest capabilities and advanced technology of producers, eliminated types of obsolete designs, and improved the performance of products, including the provision of fittings, such as child safety locks.
Aluminium windows are traditionally suitable for use even in highly corrosive environments: they are resistant to corrosion, UV and temperature fluctuations. The high strength of aluminium extrusions makes it possible to design aesthetically pleasing, large windows with heavy glazing and provides the required wind load resistance in high-rise buildings. The updated requirements of the standard increase the possibilities of providing the consumer with products of notably different durability and quality, and optimise the costs of designing translucent structures by eliminating obsolete wordings.
GOST 21519-2022 has been developed since 2020 within TC 465 ‘Construction’ by the Certification Centre for Windows and Door Technology (CC WDT), together with all leading producers being members of the Aluminium Association. Thanks to the broad representation of participants in the development of the document, a significant number of comments and suggestions received during the public discussions at national and intergovernmental level were considered in detail and taken into account when finalising the standard.
GOST 21519-2022 is fully ‘synchronised’ with GOST 23166-2021 ‘Window and balcony translucent enclosing constructions. General specifications’ regarding the requirements specified, and also regarding the effective date, which is March 1, 2023 for both standards.
‘The past two decades saw changes in the architecture of buildings, increase in window openings and floor-to-ceiling windows that have become a trend in advanced housing. Domestic companies have accumulated design knowledge and developed technology for the production of aluminium windows of various opening types, with large leafs and with sun protection and microclimate integration elements, which should certainly have been reflected in by the interstate standard. The high culture of production and up-to-date high-precision equipment for the production of aluminium structures make it possible to incorporate the most advanced requirements for the reliability and safety of these products and ensure their compliance with the standard,’ says Olga Ogorodnikova, Head of the Construction Sector at the Aluminium Association.
