30.08.2023 - Aluminium Association
Artem Asatur, Vice Chairperson of the Aluminium Association, attended the China International New Material Industry Show organised by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China and the authorities of Heilongjiang Province. At the Russian-Chinese forum on the second day of the event, Artem Asatur introduced the green construction solutions from the Association member companies, made from low-carbon-footprint aluminium. He highlighted that construction is one of the major consumers of aluminium and one of the few sectors where the scrap collection rate for subsequent recycling is nearly 100%. Aluminium is a popular construction material for green buildings thanks to its sustainability, light weight, strength, durability, and infinite recyclability.
In his address, Artem Asatur emphasised the importance of Life Cycle Assessment, which is gaining popularity worldwide. This is an assessment of the environmental footprint throughout the entire life cycle: from manufacturing to operations and potential disposal or recycling. Such an assessment compares products and identifies those based on smart technologies, have an extended lifespan, and are recyclable. Russian aluminium is manufactured using clean, renewable hydropower. It means a low carbon footprint throughout the entire value chain, right down to the end product. When conducting a Life Cycle Assessment, construction materials made from Russian aluminium stand out favourably against alternative solutions with a higher carbon footprint.
In 2022, over 200,000 tonnes of aluminium products, or 22% of the total metal consumption, were used by the Russian construction sector
On the sidelines of the show, Artem Asatur also met with Ms. Liang Huiling, Governor of Heilongjiang Province, representatives of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China, and the leaders of the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association. At the meetings, he highlighted the commitment of the Russian aluminium industry to mutually beneficial cooperation with China.
