KUMZ JSC introduced the technology of production of wide hardened cladding sheets from aluminium alloy of 2xxx series on the continuous heat treatment line in the new rolling complex. This technology is used to produce products for the civil aircraft industry.

According to experts, wide calendered cladding sheets are categorised as a highly demanded product in the market. And under the conditions of forecasted growth of domestic aircraft production, it is possible to meet the demand for hardened plates only by using the capacities of the KUMZ continuous heat treatment line.

Taking into account market expectations, a programme of mastering production technologies is being implemented - by the end of the current year it is planned to master the production of sheet products from another alloy of the 2xxx series. In general, in 2023-2024, the new rolling complex is planned to master the production of sheets from a dozen alloys of various series.

The use of a continuous heat treatment line offers a number of advantages over traditional sulphur bath quenching. Material up to 2300 mm wide and more is processed in a roll and then cut into sheets, which allows to obtain uniform properties in the whole batch of sheets, improve their flatness and surface quality, and increase productivity.

The first customers are satisfied with the sheet products produced on the continuous heat treatment line. The positive evaluation is based not only on consistently high quality values, but also on shorter delivery times and lower prices than with conventional hardening technology.
