04.07.2023 – Aluminium Association
A pedestrian bridge with architectural barriers made of aluminium alloys has been nominated for the contest "TheBest Implemented Project in the Field of Construction" organised by the Department of Urban Planning Policy of Moscow. The pedestrian bridge connecting the old and new zoo grounds is included in the category ofConstruction of Parks and Public Spaces. Other nominees for the best project were the Sun of Moscow Ferris wheel at VDNKh, a park within the Nekrasovka TPU, an embankment in the Filevsky Park neighbourhood, etc.
The Moscow Zoo Bridge was commissioned in 2022 and is a unique object, both in project design and installation. The all-aluminium 400-metre-long fences allowed the project architects to create the effect of a swirling sea wave. The installation in the historical centre of Moscow (Bolshaya Gruzinskaya Street) went almost unnoticed by motorists and pedestrians - the structures were assembled using a crane in just one night.
"The bridge in the Moscow Zoo is one of the most spectacular bridge structures with aluminium structures. Decorative enclosures made of aluminium and glass are characterised by a sophisticated bionic design - each element is unique. The bridge in the Moscow Zoo proved that the domestic aluminium industry is ready to offer the market the most modern high-tech structures that harmoniously integrate into the existing infrastructure," said Evgeny Vasiliev, Deputy Chairman of the Aluminium Association.
About the Competition
The Best Realised Project in Construction competition has been held in Moscow since 2000. Its tasks are to identify the best realised projects in the field of construction and restoration, to disseminate best practices in the field of construction using innovative technologies and modern architectural solutions. To promote the competition, an open city-wide voting was organised in the Active Citizen project, on the competition website and as part of the exhibition of competition projects in the Moscow Layout pavilion at VDNKh. Thus, in the Active Citizen app, 20% of respondents (more than 17,000 polled) voted for the bridge in the Moscow Zoo, which is the highest score at the moment. Voting will close on July 21; in August, ahead of the professional holiday, Builder's Day, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin will award the best projects.
