Moscow, February 27. Global aluminium consumption increased considerably, amounting to 64 mln tonnes in 2017. These data were reported by analysts of the Aluminium Association at the first meeting of the Association's Construction Sector in 2018. The meeting assessed the sector's performance over the past year and discussed prospects for the near future. Leaders of KraMZ LLC, Tc TENA LLC, ALUTECH, Estech-MT, Volga Metallurgical Company JSC, LPZ Segal, Nord Fox LLC, ZAP Realit, Master, Pilot Plant Avial LLC, GC Vista LLC, AMR JSC, Freestyle Technology, UC RUSAL, TATPROF JSC and DOORHAN participated in the meeting.
It was also noted that aluminium consumption grew in all segments in 2017. Growth of 5% is expected in the construction segment in 2018. The main trend of the past year was more frequent application of aluminium solutions when implementing a wide variety of construction projects. Aluminium consumption in construction is increasing despite a drop in commissioned housing. This reflects the trend towards broadening aluminium application per 1 sq. m of constructed facilities. The production of aluminium extrusions increased by 16% in 2017.
Participants in the meeting discussed the ability of members of the Aluminium Association to participate in the renovation programme in Moscow. As part of this program, scheduled for 15 years, 20 mln sq. m of new living space is planned to be commissioned, for which aluminium 'warm' windows, 'cold' glazed balconies, aluminium ventilated facade subsystems, stained glass windows for the first floors, entrance groups of aluminium sections, aluminium wiring and radiators could be required. According to preliminary estimates, the total amount of aluminium needed for this project could exceed 100 kt.
The work may involve aluminium section production for bridge constructions, implementation of untypical, architecturally complex and unique point facilities, as well as relevant issues of standardisation and regulations in the construction industry.
