Moscow, August 30. The MISiS national technology university confirmed a high corrosion resistance and durability of coated and uncoated straps and sheets of AMg2H2 alloy produced by Arconic SMZ. The products passed accelerated climatic tests simulating various conditions: in non-aggressive, medium- and highly-aggressive environments for the use under shed and in open air. Following the tests, the service life of an uncoated strap is defined from 30 to 50 years and more depending on conditions, while the polyether coat allows increasing the service life in general for 5 more years.
Experts of MISiS tested aluminium sheets in chambers simulating natural operation conditions: in testing chambers of humidity, sulphur dioxide and salt mist with various relative humidity, temperature and sulphur dioxide impact indicators.
The tests defined the time, during which the product would not lose its properties and will retain its appearance. For example, uncoated AMg2H2 alloy straps and sheets serve in non-aggressive environment in open air and under shed and in medium-aggressive environment under shed during more than 50 years. In medium-aggressive environment in open air, this period is 35 years and in highly-aggressive environment - 40 and 30 years under shed and in open air respectively. For the 25 μm polyether enamel applied on the non-primed surface of AMg2H2 aluminium alloy strap, the warranted service life of the coat used in open industrial air of moderate and cold climates in mildly-, medium- and highly-aggressive environments is 9, 6 and 4 years respectively. Such coat increases the service life of straps and sheets by additional 5-6 years.
'The test results clearly show the competitive advantages of aluminium and extend possibilities of its application in building structures,' said Valentin Trishchenko, the Chairman of the Aluminium Association.
