Preliminary results of the road facilities for 2020, implementation of the national project 'Safe and High-Quality Roads', and key objectives of the industry – these were the topics of the annual final conference of the RADOR Association. More than 300 people took part in the event via videoconferencing – representatives of regional road authorities from 62 constituent entities of the Russian Federation, representatives of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, the Federal Road Agency, the Aluminium Association, FAU ROSDORNII, and companies involved in engineering and operation of the road network.
According to Igor Starygin, CEO of the RADOR Association, expenses on road facilities in the budgets of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation amounted to almost RUB 1.4 trillion subject to RUB 300 billion of the federal support in 2020.
'It is important not just to ensure comfortable and safe driving on roads, but also to make sure that all road users see the positive changes and improvement in the quality of services,' emphasised the CEO of the RADOR Association.
In turn, Evgeny Vasiliev, Head of the Aluminium Association's Transport Infrastructure Area, informed the participants about the main advantages of bridges made of aluminium alloys, as well as legislative regulation of their engineering and construction. The expert noted that a significant event for the development of aluminium bridge construction in the country was the approval of Code of Rules 433 'Bridges with Aluminium Alloy Structures. Design Rules' applicable to pedestrian bridges by the Ministry of Construction of Russia in 2019. Before this, the construction of each new aluminium bridge structure required preparing special technical conditions.
Evgeny Vasiliev also recalled that since 2017, 8 overground pedestrian crossings have been built in Russia: 2 in the Nizhny Novgorod Region, 3 in Krasnoyarsk, 2 in Moscow, and one in Tula. According to him, it is planned to complete a set of tests to extend Code of Rules 443 to road bridges in early next year. For this purpose, the Aluminium Association, UC RUSAL and the Moscow State University of Civil Engineering (MGSU) are conducting a series of additional tests of aluminium orthotropic plates and samples.
'In the near future, the first road bridge made of aluminium alloys will appear in Russia, and intensive work will continue for constructing pre-fabricated pedestrian crossings to ensure the traffic safety on roads,' said Evgeny Vasiliev.
