The pedestrian aluminium bridge manufactured by the Krasnoyarsk Metallurgical Plant (KraMZ), a member of the Aluminium Association, is installed in the German city of Rastatt, Baden-Württemberg. The main bridge structure of anodized aluminium with a length of 18m and a width of 2m replaced the temporary bridge across the Murg river, a tributary of the Rhine. The temporary bridge, also made by KraMZ, was used during the replacement of the permanent bridge, but now it has been dismantled and moved to another facility in Leipzig.
An order to manufacture a permanent aluminium bridge came from Germany earlier this year. The customer submitted a project developed in accordance with the current regulatory requirements by the Russian Giprotransmost-Ulyanovsk Institute. Russian experts also carried out all the necessary technological operations: extrusion, milling and welding, as well as anodizing necessary to give the bridge anti-corrosion properties – everything was done at the Krasnoyarsk plant. The metal itself is also Russian: liquid aluminium was delivered to the industrial site from the Krasnoyarsk Aluminium Smelter (another member of the Aluminium Association) located near KraMZ, so logistics costs were reduced.
“Importantly, the new aluminium bridge will be 10 times lighter than the old 23-ton concrete structure. Aluminium structures are also famous for their corrosion resistance (which is clearly demonstrated by this bridge), so they can be used even in aggressive environments and in coastal zones. Simple and quick bridge erection as well convenient the transportation also deserve mentioning,” says Sergey Burtsev, General Director of KraMZ.
Bridge structures for the German city of Rastatt, as well as aluminium bridges for Krasnoyarsk, were manufactured in the extrusion and tool-making facilities of KraMZ. Three pedestrian bridges made of aluminium alloys are already installed in the capital of Siberia, and the fourth is being designed now.
This Russian-German project was developed with the participation of the Aluminium Association that promotes the use of aluminium in modern bridge construction. The experts of the Aluminium Association work in close contact with the German colleagues involved in the activities of the Association.
