Artem Asatur, co-chairman of the Association, participated in a meeting of heads of aluminium associations sponsored by the International Aluminium Institute. The meeting, which was a video conference for the first time, was attended by European, American, Japanese, Brazilian, UK, Turkish, German, Indian, Canadian and South African associations, as well as the European Aluminium Foil Association (Alufoil) and the Aluminium Association of the Persian Gulf.
The main item of the agenda at the meeting was a discussion of the COVID-19 crisis. Participants agreed that currently the global aluminium industry is in an emergency. Operations with a continuous production cycle faced the biggest challenge – they are still running amidst quarantine and lockdown. At the same time, participants stressed that the main priority was health and safety. Speakers shared their views on how their associations inform members of the best practices preventing coronavirus spread among production and office staff. Associations explain the situation to the authorities and push for compliance with interests of producers.
