This year alone, YaMZ has launched engines that comply with European emissions standards Euro-5, and has been developing Euro-6 motors for the export markets, which have the strictest requirements in terms of emission and noise levels. Approaching its centennial, the Plant is now equipped with the most modern technology, so it can be said with certainty that the next stage of development will be a respectable continuation of its legendary historical past.
The history of Yaroslavl Motor Plant ‘Avtodiesel’
The plant was founded 1916 by famous Russian engineer and entrepreneur Vladimir Alexandrovich Lebedevy as a company for assembling passenger cars and sanitation vehicles for the WWI frontline.
In 1918, the motor plant was renamed the First Yaroslavl State Automobile Repair Plant (YaGARZ). Until 1926, cars were repaired and motor handcars were built for the chassis of American trucks White. At the end of 1925, production of trucks was established, and from this time, the company operated as Yaroslavl State Automobile Plant (YaGAZ). Later, the plant changed its name to Yaroslavl Automobile Plant (YaAP). In the 30s, the company manufactured heavy good vehicles, such as buses, trolley buses and others.
In 1933, the first Soviet tractor type diesel engine was created. During the years of the Great Patriotic War (WWII), the company launched 13 types of war vehicles, including artillery tanks, and then, up until the 50s, manufactured trucks and 2-stroke diesel engines.
In 1958, the plant was renamed Yaroslavl Motor Plant, and began to concentrate entirely on developing production of diesel engines.
In the early 2000s, Yaroslavl Motor Plant became a part of the machine-building assets of Oleg Deripask, which since 2006 was merged into a holding company for the production of commercial vehicles ‘GAZ Group’. In recent years, more than RUB 15.5bln have been invested in the development of the plant, and more than 250 modifications of engines for various types of vehicle have been created.
