Energy efficiency is one of the major construction trends of the 21st century. In the conditions of rising energy prices, there is a growing interest in so-called passive houses, whose main feature is the lack of need for heating or lowest possible energy consumption parameters. Energy saving in passive houses is achieved by using a whole range of technological know-how, which allows creating a thermal protection shell in the house.
One of these 'thermal' solutions is roller shutters made from ALUTECH thermal profiles. Energy efficient construction specialists saw the true value of these construction components and they were installed in a unique residential passive house built in the Moscow Region.
As noted by experts in the energy efficient construction sector, houses lose up to 25% of their heat through the windows. The main reasons for heat leakages are significant indoor and outdoor temperature difference and insufficient impermeability of window openings. Roller shutters made from AR/41T thermal profiles from ALUTECH with improved heat transfer resistance indicators (0.29 m² K/W including heat transfer resistance of air spacing between the window unit and the roller shutter system) allow retaining the valuable heat inside the house.
'Indoor heat retention is facilitated by the shutter system's lower heat conductivity and by creating an air spacing between the shutter curtain and the window sash, which reduces heat exchange according to the thermos flask principle. As a result, the room loses much less of its accumulated heat,' explains energy efficient house construction engineer Denis Volkov with regard to the shutter system operation principle.
In addition, a light-coloured thermal coating with a large number of aluminium particles is applied on the external side of the product. This paint has a high heat reflection factor, which allows the roller shutters made from AR/41T profiles to better retain heat in the room.
Notably, the above listed features of the roller shutters are appropriate not only during the cold winter weather, but on hot summer days as well. Thanks to the white paint on the outdoor side of the roller shutter, it reflects the sun rays excellently, which means that the room will not get overheated in hot weather.
'Roller shutters are not only about energy efficiency, they are about comfort as well. So, for example, ALUTECH products made from perforated profiles have small holes between the blades, which allows varying the level of illumination inside the room. As a result, it is possible to create optimum conditions for sleeping (when the shutter is rolled down and the holes are closed) or, for example, for quality time with the family or for reading (with the holes opened),' says Denis Volkov, describing yet another advantage of the ALUTECH systems.
