Moscow, January 14, 2019 – RUSAL (stock code at the Hong Kong Stock Exchange: 486, at the Moscow Exchange: RUAL), announces the completion of its VIII New Year charity marathon 'Believe in Miracles, Work Miracles!', within the framework of which 6,070 people and 107 organisations received targeted aid.
The marathon was held for a month and a half in 19 Russian cities. More than 1,100 corporate and city volunteers organised 365 charity events to help large and low-income families, children from orphanages, as well as for the disabled and lonely elderly people, and supported various social institutions and charity foundations.
As part of the marathon, the volunteer teams built snow towns and ice slides on the territories of the sponsored institutions, organised New Year parties, provided necessary household assistance – minor repairs, general cleaning of the premises, cleaned the yards of snow, and held master classes for the wards on how to make New Year gifts and Christmas toys, etc. The volunteers got points for each good deed. The teams that scored the most points were awarded cash certificates for a total amount of RUB 2 mln. All the money will be spent on helping people and organisations in need.
The most large-scale events of the marathon were city-wide charity festivals, fairs and performances, during which everyone could make donations to help seriously ill children. At the same time, RUSAL production facilities were collecting funds to help low-income families and families raising disabled children. Donations totalled over 1.5 million roubles.
'Many of us associate New Year's Eve with an expectation of miracles and magic. For some - these are nice gifts or long-dreamed of special events; while for others - support, care and attention. Every year, thousands of like-minded people join the RUSAL's charity marathon to help children from orphanages or lonely elderly people who need care, support families with seriously ill children, or do good things for their hometowns. Thanks to the volunteers, the phrase 'Work Miracles!' has become not just a slogan, but a reality of the marathon of good deeds,' said Vera Kurochkina, Deputy CEO of RUSAL.
