The Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) rating agency has published its annual university rankings for Emerging Europe and Central Asia 2020.
Bauman Moscow State Technical University was ranked 31st among 350 best universities, having gone up five places in just one year. Universities were assessed on such criteria as online presence, the share of staff with academic degrees and the level of international cooperation.
The Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Mikhail Kotyukov had this to say about the ranking: 'We have some ambitious goals regarding the development of educational services exports and we can only achieve them by combining modern educational technologies, innovative approaches, the best traditions of the Soviet school and international experience. In addition to the goal of doubling the number of foreign students at our universities over the next five years, another key objective for us is to attract talented youths to our country, find them employment in Russia and see to it that revenue from exports of educational services keeps growing. We regard exports of education as a full-fledged sector of the economy. Given the tough competition in the global market of education services that we see today, it is not an easy task to look for unique educational niches and develop competitive educational products. This is a challenge for our country and each one of our universities. Owing to the resources made available through such national projects as Education and Science we can vary our tactics in targeting different groups of foreign applicants and that's a very important competitive edge. On top of that, we try and ensure constant professional development for our educators, while also developing the infrastructure of our universities and cities. All of these efforts are investments in the brand of Russian education, which over the next few years should regain leading positions in the most prestigious global rankings.
