At the tubing press station at the cold rolling mill XPT №1, the ‘hot’ rolling was unit was installed
The unit constitutes an industrial dryer (it is also called a heat gun), which heats the metal up to temperatures of 200˚С. Hard-deformed alloys AMg-5 and AMg-6 (used in the aviation industry) during rolling do not deform easily and as a consequence, cracks appear on the surface which is a defect. With the application of hot rolling of pipes, they begin to heat up, increasing their plasticity, and thereby the rolling process stabilises and flows without cracks forming. Currently, test work is being carried out to refine the rolling process. In April, the first prototype batch of 16*11.5mm pipe from AMg-6 alloy is scheduled for production.
Development of the technology of ‘hot’ rolling of pipes from these alloys is one of the main goals of the KraMz plant for 2017. The technology will allow KraMz to become the second supplier in the market, after ‘Aluminium metal RUS’ in Belaya Katliva, Rostovsky Region, and will increase the number of cold-deformed pipes to 5-10,000 tonnes per month.
